AAU Scouts Learn to Live Outdoor

Al Ain University, in collaboration with the Emirates Scout Association/Al Ain Scout Legation, held a specialized course in outdoor life, the environment, and community service. The course, delivered by specialized scouts, provided a comprehensive overview of the Scout Movement, its goals, and how to construct an organization. They also gave hands-on training on knots, their types, how to make them, and how to use them. In addition, the students learnt all about fires, how to put up tents, and telling directions by a compass. On the sidelines of the course, a scout exhibition took place at AAU Campus, Al Ain.
The Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Ibtehal Aburezq, highlighted the importance of the course as the Scout Movement contributes greatly to the development of the youth’s growth, both mentally and physically. The Movement enables participants to develop leadership qualities making them pro-active individuals who serve the community on all levels and in all fields.
She added: “The course dealt with outdoor life, the environment, and community service. It aimed at equipping students with skills that are bound to enrich their personal abilities within a context of social and environmental responsibility. The course focused on fostering individual skills as well.”
AAU students praised the Emirates Scout Association for the comprehensive knowledge it provided on the Scout Movement and the skills they acquired during the course. These skills, they added, will not only aid them in outdoor life, but also help them in everyday life. The course was an eye-opener to real responsibilities the students have to face toward the community and the environment. Moreover, the activities that AAU arranges in cooperation with organizations in the society enrich their knowledge and encourage them to make use of the skills and experience to the betterment of the community.
