AAU College of Law Students Perform at Moot CourtThe AAU College of Law organized  a Moot Court for students upon their completion of field training at the General Directorate of Abu Dhabi Police and Abu Dhabi Courts. The event took place at the AAU Al Ain campus with the attendance of Prof. Ghaleb El Refae, AAU President, and representatives of the organizations where students received their training.

Prof. El Refae highlighted that the College of Law gives the practical side of the profession the attention it requires through providing students with all means to pave the way for their careers referring to the professionals who graduated from the university and have played key roles in the judiciary system. El Refae reiterated that the Moot Court is not merely a theoretical activity; rather, it is an emphasis on extending the legal culture and the importance of the legal text in theory and practice. Linking legal texts to court procedures prepares the students to make the connection easily and naturally once they practice their careers, he added.

On his part, Dr. Hussein El-Mouguy, Dean of the College of Law, mentioned that the Moot Court is a simulation of a real trial and is a deviation from typical learning in the educational process. Students are assigned different judicial roles (judges, prosecutors, lawyers, etc...), and the real case is performed in the presence of an audience to enhance the public feature of courts. The importance of the Moot Court lies in enabling students to acquire the necessary skills for legal professions; it also develops the students’ personal skills in argumentation and rhetoric. Moreover, the Moot Court allows the development of the necessary skills for legal consultancy work.

The students presented case 1088 of 1988 of Abu Dhabi criminal court. The case revolved around disclosing the particularities of a murder against an infant and adultery. After listening to the witnesses, the defendant was indicted. The court sentenced him in accordance with the penal code.

At the end of the event, Prof. El Refae presented certificates of appreciation to the representatives of public organizations as well as the participating students.
