"The National Rehabilitation" stresses the role of family in protecting from addiction

The National Rehabilitation Center in collaboration with the World Health Organization provided a virtual awareness seminar for students of Al Ain University in Abu Dhabi campus, on drugs and dangerous substances and methods of prevention and treatment, presented by Dr. Muhammad Ismail Al Hosani-Director of Operations Department at the Center, in the presence of Prof. Hamad Abdullah Al-Ghafri- Director General of the Center, Dr. Hanan Al-Lihyani- Deputy Dean of College of Education, Humanities and Social Sciences and faculty members.
Dr. Al Hosani gave a comprehensive presentation on the achievements and the prestigious position of UAE, the level of its legislation in providing care, protection, and rehabilitation for this social segment, based on the center’s values in protecting the privacy of individuals and their families applying for treatment. He affirmed the center’s keenness to provide the necessary care and treatment to all who need it and following the highest levels of confidentiality and privacy, especially in light of the UAE laws guaranteeing the principle of lack of legal accountability for those who volunteer to receive treatment.
He indicated that the center has the highest levels of infrastructure and medical personnel supported by distinguished and high-quality laboratories, stressing the family's effective role in protecting all its members from the dangers and damages of addiction. He also stressed that the center is always ready to receive drugs addicted cases, conducting studies about them, based on evaluation interviews and counseling sessions done by specialists in psychological sciences and social service, as a first step to be followed by developing a comprehensive treatment plan that takes into account the specificity of the case, its needs, and circumstances, treatment period.
During the seminar, Dr. Al Hosani pointed out the importance and essential role of media and social media platforms in prevention, awareness, and guidance from this scourge. The center has a strategic media plan to deliver its message to the public to all segments of the society.
For his part, Dr. Hussein Salem Al-Sarhan, Chairman of the Community Interaction Committee at Al Ain University - Abu Dhabi Campus, pointed out that the university organized this seminar to be in line with its strategic objectives related to community service, to enable its students to learn about the role of national institutions in the country and their contribution to social development, contributions in protecting individuals, family and society from all social problems and negative phenomena that are considered the scourge of addiction to drugs, the abuse of dangerous drugs and the most important are, because of the multiple effects they have on young people in particular.
Al-Sarhan added that the study plan for the Applied Sociology major at Al Ain University includes a specialized course in the field of drugs and society while organizing this seminar was an additional activity for students and teaching staff to get acquainted with the National Rehabilitation Center and its pioneering role in prevention, intervention, treatment, and aftercare for patients with addiction.
