Engineering students at Al Ain University achieved a remarkable success by securing second place in the Universities Hackathon “Farm to Market,” held as part of the UAE Agriculture Conference & Exhibition 2026.
The team was selected from more than 2,000 applications nationwide, placing them among the top ten teams to reach the final stage of the competition.
The students presented their innovative project SooqRoot, an AI-powered platform that connects local farmers directly with commercial buyers such as hotels and supermarkets, helping to improve supply chain efficiency and reduce food waste.
Their project impressed the judging panel, earning them second place along with a cash prize of AED 8,000.
The journey of SooqRoot continues as the team enters the incubation phase, where they will work with government stakeholders and industry experts in the UAE to further develop the platform into a fully functional product.
In the coming months, the team will focus on refining their business model and preparing for real-world implementation.
This achievement reflects the excellence of engineering students at Al Ain University and the university’s commitment to supporting student innovation in critical areas such as food security and sustainability.
