AAU Wins First Place in Environment Competition

AAU Wins First Place in Environment CompetitionUnder the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Ruler's Representative in the Western Region, the Environment Agency - Abu Dhabi (EAD) organized an exhibition of the Annual Environment Competition entries.  H.H. Sheikh Hazza bin Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, H.H Sheikh Yas bin Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, H.H. Sheikh Rashid bin Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and H.E. Dr. Rashid Ahmad bin Fahad, Minister of Environment and Water also attended the opening ceremony.

During the ceremony, the (EAD) honored 101 participants in the 11th Annual Environment Competition 2011/2012. The competition, organized by the (EAD), aims at increasing environmental awareness among school and university students and enlightening them about the most important environmental problems in the UAE as well as the world. The competition also seeks to enhance the students’ role in serving the environment through enabling them to express their views and thoughts and to propose possible solutions to environmental problems threatening their lives and communities.

The AAU student Yousef Al Ali, from the College of Business Administration, received the First Place award in Photography. The winning photograph, of the mangroves in Abu Dhabi, was a distinguished one calling for thoughtful appreciation of the surrounding nature and increased awareness for the protection of mangroves.

On his part, the student, Yousef Al Ali, expressed his appreciation to AAU for the support it extends with regard to extracurricular activities through encouraging students to participate in competitions such as the Environment Competition.
